liquefy i shall fill your glass again. but this time drink it slowly. let the ice kiss your lips. let the ice touch the tongue. feel the cold. it come the cold. and then the burn. it justifies. it pacifies. it purifies. to liquefy you know i love you. but after three and after four i love you more. i love you harder. i love you longer. i'll do whatever it takes i will kneel to taste the wet there so slowly so slowly the longer it takes the better it feels when you get there. it justifies. it pacifies. it crucifies. to liquefy.
notes. a drinking song. came up with the chords while getting ready to leave town for a wedding in portsmouth, nh, in june 98. trying to play something else, made a mistake, sounded cool, ran with it. par for the course in the bry-bry school of songwriting. chorus came first: just improvising the melody: 'it justifies...' short pauses to come up with rhyming words. 'pacifies... purifies...' next rhyme was 'liquefy.' my mind trailed back to a blues lyric i'd come up with in '91 about 'loving her more' after a couple-few drinks, and after that the song pretty much wrote itself. recorded it the next morning while sitting along the water in portsmouth with my little grey tape recorder. rough, but i love it. you can hear the wind blowing. people talking as they walk by. children playing. some sounds so ingrained i anticipate them as i listen to the jennifer version.
